Single shot mines fire a burst of stars with a big bang straight out of a mortar. They are reloadable and are quite an exciting effect. They are perhaps better thought of as a thin-walled star shell exploding in a tube and flinging its stars vertically.

Single shot mines are good for starting shows or as a punctuation point. They are an extremely powerful effect and provide an excellent substitute for starshells.

Also available are Comet mines, consisting of a single large star. The aerodynamics affecting star flight mean that while a mine with many small stars will have a lower height than a star shell of the same diameter, a comet mine can travel higher than the star shell.
