Lightning bolt

The lightning bolt, which we have developed for a musical to tour New Zealand, is very bright.

In this photo all the lights are off and the lightning bolt is lighting up the whole room. You can even see it shining through the fibreglass mortar tube it is so bright.

The first bang when one of these goes off as a surprise, but when three or four alternate from either side of the stage, it's a very powerful and evocative statement.

Coupled with the sound system following with rolling peals of thunder, it's pretty much like a lightning flash might feel up close.

For the technically inclined it's the standard stage flash, modified to be up to 10 metres long. Contained in the tube, there is no hot flame so it can be put directly on a set.
